Learn How to Get Financial FreedomWritten on the 20th of November 2007 by Gold Coast Sun A GOLD Coast businessman has paved a yellow brick road to success and is sharing the gold along the way.In 2003 Nicholas Sinclair co-founded a financial planning company on the Coast and now owns Wealthfarm, one of the largest financial planning business in its dealer group. ‘‘I am in the business for the long term and I want to see my clients reach what many people only dream of – financial freedom,’’ he says. ‘‘We have 1235 clients between our three offices – Gold Coast, Mackay and Brisbane.’’ He says his passion for financial planning stemmed from his parents losing everything they owned on a business failure when he was young. ‘‘That feeling of losing everything fuelled my desire to make sure that never happened to me or anyone I knew,’’ he says. ‘‘I have since helped my parents and with every new client I know I can make a difference.’’ He says the business focused on providing strategic and holistic financial planning advice – not investment advice. Nicholas says Wealthfarm believes the first step to financial freedom is the joint approach of communication and education and, to this end, the company holds regular wealth- creation seminars and special presentations at all its offices. The practice’s philosophy is strongly focused on educating people so they can take advantage of the best available financial advice. ‘‘People don’t need to just get by, they need to manage their finances better,’’ he says. ‘‘Some 74 per cent of Australians aged over 65 years live on an income of less than $20,748, according to last year’s Australian Bureau of Statistics Census. ‘‘This is reality, and the general community needs to realise action needs to be taken early. ‘‘You won’t become wealthy overnight. It will take years, but the more assets you accumulate, the more you can choose how you live.’’ He says Wealthfarm had clients aged just 30 who could retire. ‘‘Financial freedom is about choice, and Wealthfarm is passionate about delivering advice to help change their situation,’’ he says.
