Interest Rates...To Fix or Not To Fix

Each month at Wealthfarm we run free educational workshops. You don’t need to be a Wealthfarm client to attend. Our first workshop for the year "Interest rates...to fix or not to fix" presented by Stephen Pollard, Senior Financial Planner at Wealthfarm will be held on Wednesday 18th January.

Could you live on the Aged Pension? The single Aged Pension rate is $689 per fortnight. For a couple it’s $519.40 each per fortnight.

Today 8 out of 10 people rely on the Aged Pension. It’s a fact we are retiring earlier, living longer and there are less taxpayers to fund the Aged Pension. The Aged Pension won’t sustain a comfortable retirement and is the reason why now is the time to start building your wealth.

Many Australians today need to think and act differently to their parents when it comes to creating wealth. What needs to change to make this possible? Firstly our attitude to what’s possible and secondly our attitude to money.

Here’s a great question to ask, “Why do we feel so comfortable borrowing money to purchase depreciating lifestyle assets but we feel uncomfortable borrowing money to invest in real assets which will provide us with financial security and freedom over time?”

Simon will discuss saving versus leverage. He’ll address the question, “Can we afford the loan?” He’ll look at interest only home loans and the frequently asked question “What if rates rise?” Simon will also provide information around capital gains tax and apportionment.

It’s not what you owe or what you own that is important it’s the gap between the two that is important. As you create your wealth you will see things you want to buy. You’ll need to understand the true cost of buying the things ‘want’. There’ll be times where your investment will go down. Overtime you will move from dependence on earned income to financial freedom.
Simon will provide tips on building property and share portfolios.
