Dear Valued Client

We're pleased to enclose the May edition of Market Update and Outlook for 2011.

Key themes from this edition:

The big news in April was rating agency Standard & Poor’s changed the outlook for the US AAA credit rating from stable to negative.

This naturally had an adverse effect on markets and was the result of ongoing debt issues.

Elsewhere in the world, China’s first quarter GDP and inflation figures were higher than expected with monetary tightening still on the agenda for authorities.

Over in Europe, the ECB is also keeping a close eye on inflation with further rate increases looking likely.

The Australian dollar also reached another 29 year high as it hit over $1.10 against the USD.

As a long-term investor, it’s important to keep in mind that we can probably expect to see more volatility as global markets work towards a sustained recovery.
